Big changes: New Renault Espace 2023 will be a family crossover (video)

For its 40th anniversary, the Renault Espace will be radically redesigned and transformed into a seven-seat crossover. There will be petrol and hybrid versions of the model.

The first teasers of the sixth generation Renault Espace have been released. The new model will be released this spring and will change radically – it will be a crossover. This is the official website of the French brand.

The first Renault Espace in 1984 was at the origins of the minivan segment, but now such models are not in demand. Family buyers prefer crossovers and for its 40th anniversary decided to create a completely different Espace on the CMF-CD platform.

The basis of the novelty will be the Renault Austral crossover – in fact, the Espace will be an elongated version of it. The trailers show that both models have the same lights.

Previously, the new Renault Espace was seen in camouflage in tests and its renders were also on the internet. It differs from the Austral only in the rear design.

The Renault Espace crossover will be approximately 20 cm (4.7 m) longer than the Austral and the wheelbase will be increased by 7 cm (up to 2.74 m). This will allow you to install a third row of seats in the cabin, but it will be designed for children.

Renault Espace 2023 will be equipped with 1.2-liter (130 hp) and 1.3-liter (140 and 160 hp) petrol engines, and the flagship will be a 200-horsepower hybrid that consumes less than 5 liters of fuel per 100 km. Buyers will be offered a 6-speed manual transmission and CVT, but the drive will be front-wheel drive only.

The Espace isn’t the only French brand’s minivan to turn into a crossover. The same fate awaits the new Renault Scenic.

same Focus reports that the compact crossover Renault Captur will undergo extensive modernization.
