Urban mobility underground: the bold proposal that revolutionized Elon Musk

Everyone knows Elon Musk as the visionary who changed electric mobility in the United States and around the world. Others know of his existence thanks to the tremendous work he has done at the head of SpaceX, his space company, which is working hand in hand with NASA to carry out various missions that could have far-reaching results in the future.

He also ran PayPal for a while, and he might be recognized there too. However, there is a South African company that almost no one talks about, but which is currently taking giant steps towards the development and improvement of urban mobility: The Boring Company, a company that just hit the table hard.

The said company aims to improve the transit of the busiest streets and cities, for this reason it has raised the issue of developing a series of underground tunnels that lighten the traffic load on the surface, improving the flow and rhythm of traffic jams. reduce them until at some point this problem is a thing of the past.

Elon Musk’s first tunnel and project of this type was completed in the city of Los Angeles, California, where they started with a 100-meter section of the project that is estimated to reach 3.2 kilometers with direct access to Los Angeles International Airport. , referring to another tunnel in another area of the city, but this time about 10.5 kilometers.

Underground tunnels in Las Vegas

After debuting in Los Angeles, Elon Musk and The Boring Company’s proposal is coming to Las Vegas “sin city” to perform the same function, with an incredible capacity of 4,440 passengers per hour, where you can move at a speed of 56 kilometers per hour. an hour while crossing the convention center, one of the highest traffic areas not only in the state, but in the whole country.

The tunnel has a length of 2.40 km (approximately) which can be used in about two minutes to reduce up to 15 km of the route, as is usually done on the surface, with the possibility of reaching a speed of 240 km/h in the future, or at least this Musk’s prediction of when the underground tunnel project will be more advanced and developed.

It should be noted that only electric and autonomous vehicles will be able to use the tunnels provided by The Boring Company to promote sustainable mobility at a cost of $1 a day, although they are also expected to be allowed. for cyclists and other forms of alternative transport friendly to the environment.
