BMW X5 received a special electric version with factory LPG (photo)

Production of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen started in Munich. The crossover will be the first of a new hydrogen-powered model family. This is the official website of the German brand.

First, a pilot batch of 100 BMW iX5 Hydrogens will be launched. They will be used for test and demonstration work in various countries. The cost of the car was not disclosed, but it is known that it exceeded 100,000 euros.

A 401-horsepower engine from BMW iX is installed on the rear axle of the crossover. It allows you to accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds and the maximum speed is limited to 180 km/h.

Electricity for the engine is produced by the reaction of hydrogen in fuel cells. The power plant was developed in partnership with Toyota because the Japanese brand has been producing Mirai hydrogen sedans for a long time.

Gas is stored in cylinders and is sufficient to travel 504 km. It takes 4 minutes to refuel, and this is the main advantage of hydrogen models compared to battery-powered electric cars.

Visually, the crossover differs from the standard BMW X5 body kit and special wheels with improved aerodynamics. The virtual instrument panel in the cabin has been replaced.
