Former Tesla engineers showed a trailer for electric cars for $125,000 (video)

The trailer can save the charge of the electric vehicle with the built-in battery. Solar panels are used for charging and the battery life is about a week.

Founded by former Tesla engineers, Lightship RV has introduced a practical L1 tow trailer for electric cars. This was reported on the InsideEVs website.

The Lightship L1 is equipped with a motor that turns the wheels while towing, thus maintaining the electric vehicle’s range. It can also be used in vehicles with internal combustion engines.

The travel trailer received an unusual aerodynamic design with a power plant. An 80 kWh battery is fitted inside, which powers the electronics and charges electric vehicles while towing.

Lightship L1 dimensions:

  • length – 8230 mm;
  • width – 2500 mm;
  • height – 2103/3048 mm (road mode / camping mode).

The total weight of the trailer is approximately 3400 kg. Its panels and roof are covered with solar panels that can produce 3 kW of energy. According to Lightship, that’s enough for a week of battery life.

Lightship L1 also supports bidirectional charging technology. You can charge your electric vehicle while the trailer is in camping mode.

It can accommodate up to 6 people inside. The trailer has everything you need for life.

The Lightship L1 is equipped with a living room, open and closed kitchens, and a built-in bathroom. Water tanks are also provided.

Travel trailer prices start at $125,000 ($118,400 after tax credit). The Lightship L1 is expected to enter the US market in early 2024.
