Amelia Earhart’s rare Cord has been restored to its original condition. The convertible will be on public display as part of a rare retro car display.

Restoration of the impressive 1937 Cord 812 Convertible is completed in the USA. The luxury car belonged to famous pilot record holder Amelia Earhart. This is reported by the Carscoops website.

Amelia Earhart is famous for her many aviation records. She especially became the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean alone.

The pilot decided to buy a Cord 812 Phaeton shortly before his famous round-the-world flight where he disappeared. There is also a photo of Amelia Earhart with Cord in front of the plane shortly before takeoff. The sports model was very rare and expensive – only 1174 Cord 812s were produced, of which less than half were convertibles.

The choice of a progressive pilot is understandable – the Cord 812 was one of the most innovative cars of its time. It had front-wheel drive and a semi-automatic pre-selection transmission, which was rare for the 30s.

Salon Cord 812 is made in the style of aviation, which could not but please the pilot. And the world’s first car with retractable headlights. The convertible is equipped with a 4.7-liter 125-horsepower V8 and can accelerate to 150 km / h.

Shortly after Amelia Earhart disappeared, her husband sold the car. It has repeatedly changed owners and, as a result, stood disassembled for spare parts for a long time.

Only in 2004, Amelia Earhart’s car was assembled. In 2018, the current owner sent a Cord 812 Phaeton for restoration.

Now the convertible looks like new. Included in the US National Register of Historic Vehicles, which includes 32 rare models. In September, all these vintage cars will be put on a special exhibition in Washington.
