eTurbo: additional powertrain for hybrid vehicles

With the passage of time, hybrid or 100% electrified vehicles are taking more and more space in the automotive market, gradually gaining a place to become the first choice for users after offering excellent features and capabilities.

Precisely in order to make eco-friendly cars genuine machines that can meet customer needs, BorgWarner decided to boost the performance of hybrid vehicles by introducing an electric turbo system called eTurbo, with the intention of taking eco-mobility to the next level.

In fact, this company said in an official statement that there is already a car manufacturer that will use eTurbo in its production, since BorgWarner will work with vehicles of this caliber (hybrids) for the first time, expanding its commitment to creating and developing urban mobility of the future, able to contribute contribution to the care of the earth.

How it works?

The eTurbo electric turbo system works in conjunction with a high-speed, shaft-mounted electrified motor that can drive two types of electronics, semi-integrated or integrated BorgWarner, delivering up to 200% power increase with no lag effect, which is ideal for Miller cycle powertrains because it reduces emissions and delivers improved fuel economy without compromising performance at all times.

On the other hand, the eTurbo is able to harvest the excess energy given off by the exhaust pipe to convert it into electricity, which can be used to provide extra power to certain vehicle processes that need it, including recharging the battery.

In addition, the system significantly reduces emissions through a process that increases engine backpressure to reduce emissions, helping to save the environment while boosting the power and speed of hybrid vehicles on the market, which BorgWarner plans to launch in the third quarter of 2023.

Finally, the company has assured that the eTurbo will debut in passenger cars, but is looking forward to incorporating them into commercial trucks, offering high voltage compatible architectures and full 48 volt performance.
