Audi’s compact electric car will be built on an entirely new platform. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions are expected, as well as sporty S and RS variants.
Audi is developing a new compact and low-cost electric car. It will appear in 2027 and will be the successor to the A3 hatchback. This was announced at the last annual press conference by Audi technical director Oliver Hoffman, Autocar reports.
According to him, Audi’s new electric car will be smaller than the Q4 crossover and comparable in size to the current A3. He did not specify whether the model would retain the A3 name or be renamed.
Also, Oliver Hoffman mentioned that Audi’s most affordable electric car will be built on the modular SSP platform. This architecture will replace the MEB “car”, and it is already known that the flagship Volkswagen Trinity electric car will drive it.
The SSP platform allows you to create models with a range of up to 700 km. It also supports 800-volt fast charging, allowing you to charge the battery to 80% in 10 minutes.
The Audi A3 electric car will be offered with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. It is also expected that there will be strongly charged versions of the S and RS in the lineup.
