The first Ukrainian electric car was front-wheel drive and received two engines. Innovative solutions such as aluminum body and air suspension were used in its design.

Electric cars were produced 88 years ago in Ukraine. It was established by experts from the Historic Automobile Club, according to “Autocentre”.

Auto historians learned that in the mid-30s in Kiev, a group of employees of the Glavdortrans automobile department of the Ukrainian SSR (Ukravtodor’s predecessor), led by A. Taubin, was developing passenger electric cars. In April 1935, a prototype car was ready.

For its time, the Ukrainian electric car was progressive. Its fuselage and tubular frame are made of aircraft-grade aluminum. In addition, the electric car was front-wheel drive and received an independent air suspension on all wheels.

Taubin’s electric car is designed for 3-4 people. Two engines with a capacity of 3 kW (4 hp) were placed at the front – one per wheel. Accordingly, the total output of the power plant was 8 liters. With. It was powered by seven acidic batteries, each with a capacity of 112 Ah.

The first Ukrainian electric car did not go into series. Nevertheless, the engineers continued to work, and in the late 40s the production of electric cars was started by LAZ.

Earlier, the Historical Automobile Club determined that the first electric car in Ukraine appeared in 1895 – it was brought to Odessa.
