An electric car is very different from a standard sports car. The Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 was built to break the quarter-mile world record.
Ford has unveiled its new Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 race car to break the quarter-mile drag racing world record. This was reported on The Drive website.
Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 is an improvement of Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 introduced by Ford in 2021. The car has become even more powerful and faster.
The supercar is equipped with two DS-250-115 electric motors paired with four PN-250-DZR inverters. The total power of the power plant is 1800 hp.
Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 has a light body and is equipped with all-wheel drive. This provides maximum grip on the road.
Engineers added new control and data acquisition systems to the vehicle to simplify installation. The supercar also differs from the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 with a new rear end that provides more downforce.
The weight of the car has been significantly reduced. This was achieved thanks to particularly lightweight batteries.
Ford hopes the new version of the car will beat the previous all-wheel drive electric car record a quarter-mile. In 2021, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 covered the quarter mile in just 8.128 seconds. Additionally, the team expects to set a new record for 0 to 60 mph.
