American returns to rare Chevrolet stolen 13 years ago (photo)

The woman found the stolen car 9 years later, but had to wait another four years due to bureaucratic problems. Problems arose due to government policy and controversial documents in the car.

An American named Elliott was able to return a 1971 Chevrolet Nova SS stolen from him in 2010. This was reported on The Drive website.

In September 2010, Elliott parked his car in front of his friend’s house as he went to rehab. Two months later she realized that her woman’s car was missing.

The police did not find the stolen Chevrolet Nova for a long time and the case was closed. Still, Elliott kept searching.

Nine years later, the woman saw her car in an ad for sale. She immediately contacted the seller and contacted the police.

Elliott hoped to get his Chevrolet Nova back soon, but things turned out to be much more difficult. Due to bureaucratic problems, she only got her car back four years later.

The car was put up for sale by a dealer named Jeremy Conroy, who believed he had bought it legally from a man named Andy Mays. The car had no papers.

After a while, the Chevrolet Nova was re-registered. The history of the car did not show that it was stolen. The fact is that the police regularly delete old records of theft from the government database.

Law enforcement eventually arrested Mays, accusing him of stealing the car, but he managed to get out. The charges were dropped as there was no public defender to work on the case.

In the end, it now remains to decide who owns the car. Elliot wanted it back, but so did Conroy, who paid $10,000 for the car.

The court ruled that the Chevrolet Nova belonged to Elliot, as Conroy failed to obtain the original documents for the car. Thus, the woman was able to return her stolen car only 13 years later.
