South Korean brand Samsung will be history. From now on, the company will produce cars only under the Renault brand.
The Samsung brand will soon cease to exist. Automobile production will continue under the Renault brand at the factory in South Korea. This was reported by the Econovill website.
The rebranding of Samsung Motors has been ongoing for several years. In 2022, the company was renamed Renault Korea Motors and has been called Renault Korea since April 2024.
Now famous Renault models are produced under the Samsung brand. Therefore, Samsung XM3 has already become Renault Arkana. At the same time, the Samsung QM6 was renamed the Renault QM6 because it was a version of the Koleos crossover that had been discontinued in Europe.
The flagship Samsung SM6 (twin brother of the Renault Talisman) is currently produced under the Korean brand, but will soon receive Renault logos. And in the summer, a completely new model should be released, created jointly with Geely (the Chinese concern Renault acquired a stake in Korea).
Samsung’s automotive division was founded in 1995. At first, the South Korean company cooperated with Nissan and produced the Nissan Maxima and Almera sedans under the Samsung brand.
After the 1998 crisis, Samsung decided to stop producing automobiles and sold the company to the Renault Group two years later. They decided to keep the Samsung brand, but all the models of the brand were actually versions of Renault. 104 thousand Samsung cars were sold in 2023.
By the way, this is not the only South Korean manufacturer to undergo rebranding. SsangYong was recently renamed KG Mobility and the new brand has already appeared on the Ukrainian market.
Moreover Focus he told me that a new Renault crossover has appeared in Ukraine.
