Achema, the largest fertilizer plant in the Baltics, has been temporarily suspending operations since September 1. This was announced on Thursday on the company’s official website.
It is specified that such a decision was made in connection with a record rise in the price of natural gas, which is a key resource in the production of nitrogen fertilizers.
“As the price of natural gas in Europe continues to rise sharply, Achema is temporarily suspending its plant from September 1st.”the message says.
In addition, the company stressed that in the context of anti-Russian sanctions, the fertilizers produced by the plant become uncompetitive compared to American or German counterparts.
Earlier it was reported that the largest aluminum plant in Slovakia, Slovalco, will soon suspend work due to a significant increase in the cost of electricity.
