Hungary explains Serbia’s refusal to impose sanctions against Russia

The key reason for the reluctance of the Serbian government to introduce economic restrictions against Russia is its dependence on Russian energy resources. This was announced on Saturday by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Peter Szijjarto, during a short conversation with journalists from the information agencies TANJUG.

“We also understand that you do not want your people to freeze and do not want to impose restrictive measures. We don’t want to either, that’s why we buy gas from Russia“, Szijjarto said.

In addition, the head of the Foreign Ministry stressed that his words should not be regarded as a political statement, since a reliable supply of natural gas is a priority issue for Hungary and Serbia.

The diplomat also added that the Hungarian government understands and supports the decision of the political leadership of Serbia regarding restrictions on Russia.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the country’s authorities cannot do without Russian energy supplies, including natural gas.
