The countries of the former USSR increased the supply of goods to the Russian Federation against the backdrop of sanctions

The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as well as some states of the former USSR that are not members of the union, increased the supply of goods to Russia in the summer against the backdrop of sanctions. About it writes RBC, referring to the trade statistics of these countries.

As specified, the EAEU bloc (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia) shipped goods worth more than $9.4 billion to Russia from March to June 2022. This is 15% more than in the same months last year (about $8.2 billion).

At the same time, during this period, Armenia increased supplies to Russia by more than one and a half times in annual terms, and Kyrgyzstan more than doubled.

It is noted that the supply of goods to Russia is increasing not only the EAEU countries, but also other states of the post-Soviet space. Among them are Georgia and Uzbekistan.

The material says that the fact that the ruble is currently exceptionally strong relative to their national currencies stimulates importing their goods from the countries of the former USSR. Sophia Donets, chief economist at Renaissance Capital for Russia and the CIS, stated this.

She explained that the goods of these countries will become more competitive in price, which will eventually support local producers. In addition, Russia is a close and accessible market for them.

Earlier, the FCS told which counterfeit goods are most often imported into Russia. So, the main counterfeit, which they are trying to carry out under the guise of parallel imports, are children’s toys – the most difficult situation is observed with them. Also included in this category are clothes, shoes, perfumes and electronics.
