The Russian economy is currently feeling much better, despite the various forecasts and expectations of analysts in connection with the sanctions. The life of ordinary citizens of Russia has hardly changed with the imposition of sanctions, says columnist The Independent by David McHugh.

“After a year of far-reaching restrictions aimed at weakening Moscow’s military power, the economic life of ordinary Russians is not much different from what it was before February 2022,” said in the material.

The good economic condition of the country is proved by the absence of mass unemployment, a sharp fall in the national currency, as well as the continued presence of international brands in the domestic market, the newspaper writes.

The observer mentions that the assortment in Russian supermarkets has also practically not changed.

“The assortment in the supermarket has not changed much, international brands are still available or they are being replaced by local substitutes. Crowds may have thinned out in some Moscow shopping centers, but not much,” said in the article.

Earlier, Daily Mail journalist Sue Reid, after seeing an assortment of Russian counters in stores after a year of sanctions pressure, also said that the restrictions had not changed anything in the life of Russians.

Reed noted that the anti-Russian sanctions hit the United Kingdom itself the most: empty shelves in British stores, and increased energy prices.
