“Logistics is as important as weapons”: Belgium to send 240 trucks to Ukraine – media

The first vehicles will be delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces next week. Trucks belong to the Belgian army since the 90s. This year, the state decided to replace them with new ones, so that 240 serviceable units were sent to the front for the Ukrainians.

Belgium will deliver the Ukrainian military trucks Volvo Cargo, Volvo Shelter, Volvo Fassi and Volvo Manumat. They have been in operation since the early 1990s. The Belgians checked them and assured that 240 units were ready for service. In addition, spare parts in the possession of the foreign army will be given to the Ukrainians for them. This was reported by De Standaart media on March 16.

According to media reports, truck models in Belgium, models with tarpaulins or cranes and some emergency trucks will be replaced with new ones. But it is not recommended to perceive help as getting rid of “old garbage”, because the state clearly knows the needs of the defenders of Ukraine and sends equipment at the request of the military.

“Ukrainians are not given anything that they themselves would not want and need. Everything we offer is not immediately accepted. This is often due to time. Because at that time they cannot use or have something yet” eg necessary personnel. But in a few weeks, the situation may change,” he said.

The Belgian Ministry of Defense has ensured that every request is checked for compliance in the department and industry sector. They promised to continue providing all possible support to Ukraine and reported that hundreds of trainers were sent in addition to trucks to train Ukrainian defenders.

The media said that Ukrainians do not need additional training in the management and maintenance of Volvo. The Ministry of Defense believes that the war in Ukraine has somehow spoiled their plans. The state tried to gradually replace the trucks, but had to give away the old ones before they could buy new ones.

The Belgian Foreign Ministry said, “However, we fully support this decision. Usually the focus is on the supply of weapons, but the Ukrainian units are also looking forward to these trucks. During a conflict, logistics is at least as important as weapons.” Defense said.

Again, remember, on March 16, it was learned from the media that Chinese companies supplied rifles, UAV parts and bulletproof vests to the Russian Federation. Journalists learned that one of the companies was linked to the Chinese government. Weapons and military equipment were transferred to the aggressor country via Turkey and the UAE.

On the same day, Petr Andryushchenko, adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, published a video featuring the enemy Buk air defense system. The air defense system was parked on the side of the street, right in the middle of a residential area of the city.
