Ukrainians warn of possible electricity problems in the summer: description of Ukrenergo (video)

According to the head of the company, Vladimir Kudrytsky, in the spring and summer there is excess capacity in the energy system, so Ukraine sells the existing one abroad. But 2023 will be different.

The Ukrainian energy system is in trouble due to Russian rocket attacks that have caused serious damage to the country’s energy facilities. And although electricity is supplied to all consumers now, in the summer of 2023 Ukrainians may again experience a shortage of electricity. This was stated by Volodymyr Kudrytsky, chairman of the board of NPC Ukrenergo, in the broadcast of the telethon on April 27, 2023.

“Most of Ukrenergo’s facilities were damaged, we are currently repairing them. Our thermal and hydroelectric power plants, which form an important part of our balance sheet, were also severely damaged. Therefore, the repair campaign in the spring and summer of 2023 is very difficult, due to large-scale winter destruction,” he said.

According to him, electricity shortage is a seasonal phenomenon. At the same time, there is overcapacity in Ukraine in the spring and summer months. The deficit in the energy system occurs with the onset of cold weather in autumn and winter.

“However, we may see a shortage in the summer months due to the damage to our power plants this year, and this will have to be compensated by increasing the capacity of the power plants as well as importing electricity,” said Vladimir. kudritsky

How much money will be needed to repair the energy infrastructure?

Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, told Obozrevatel on April 20 that it would cost about $2 billion to repair facilities damaged by the Russians. At the same time, in the usual mode, almost like before the war, the country’s energy system will begin to work only after 2-2.5 years. And our country will have a completely renewed energy system in five to seven years.

“It will be a different energy system, structured differently, much more carbon-neutral, more environmentally friendly, more efficient. But it takes 5-7 years to reach a new energy system,” he said.

Recall that since the autumn of 2022 last year, the energy infrastructure of Ukraine withstood more than 15 massive missile attacks of the Russian Armed Forces, another 18 attacks were carried out using kamikaze drones. According to the Ukrainian government, in December 2022 the Russian army damaged or destroyed 50% of the electricity grid. Russian missiles hit all thermal power plants and most hydroelectric power stations.

Also earlier Focus He wrote about how much money Russian energy terrorism is pulling out of Ukraine. It is worth noting that the last large-scale rocket attack occurred on the night of March 8-9.
