Pensions in Ukraine: who will receive more payments from July 2023?

From July 1, 2023, several categories of Ukrainian pensioners will receive increased payments, since several stages of indexation of these payments are planned in Ukraine.

Despite the Russia-Ukraine war, in 2023 the payment of pensions will be revised and pensioners will receive higher salaries. Yevhen Kapinus, chairman of the board of the Ukraine Pension Fund, spoke about this in an interview with TSN published on May 8.

Payment of pensions in 2023: when will indexation take place

According to Yevgeny Kapinus, indexation of pensions this year has already been carried out, and pensions are planned to be recalculated several times.

The official reminded that the size of the minimum pension and the minimum pension payments to retirees of different age categories with full insurance records have increased.

The first indexing took place on 1 March. The payment of pensions to Ukrainian pensioners for the second time in 2023 was recalculated in April. And the next increase in payments is scheduled for July.

“From July 1, 19.7% of pensions are scheduled to be indexed,” said the chairman of the board of the PFU.

Who Can Expect a Pension Increase?

Kapınus stated that as of July 1, the pensions of civil servants, deputies and local government representatives will be increased. This means that 19.7% of all Ukrainian retirees can count on an increase in their pension.

How much will the payment of pensions increase in Ukraine

“In 2023, the size of the minimum pension and minimum pension payments to pensioners of different age categories with full insurance records has increased,” said the chairman of the board of directors of the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

He explained that the size of each retiree’s pension depends on two factors. The first is insurance experience. The second is the amount of salary deducted to the Pension Fund.

Recall that on May 9 it became known which of the Ukrainians can increase payments by 20%. In March, the state recalculated the pension payments of 10.5 million Ukrainians. In particular, the pensions of those who suffered from the Chernobyl disaster were increased. And in July, a new indexing is planned, as stated in the PFC.

Also on May 6, the media wrote which of the Ukrainians will receive an additional 1,000 hryvnia in June. The PFC noted that certain categories of citizens may qualify for the updated payments and warned that the recalculation will be done retrospectively due to the late receipt of statistics.
