The Joe Biden administration wants to cut off opportunities for Russia to get resources to continue the aggression and deprive the Kremlin of loopholes to bypass current restrictions.
The United States has already prepared a new package of sanctions against Russia. It is known that the restrictions will affect 300 companies, ships and aircraft. The representative of the White House, in his briefing on May 18, 2023, also said that export restrictions will be applied to approximately 70 companies from the Russian Federation and third countries.
“Our sanctions will be extended to additional sectors of the Russian economy, which are key to the country’s military-industrial complex. New restrictions will also be imposed so that Russia does not have a chance to benefit from our services.”
According to him, the sanctions will hit companies from the following companies, as well as financial intermediaries in Moscow:
- Europe.
- Middle East.
- Asia.
Sanctions will be imposed on financial intermediaries, the energy and mining capacities of the Russian Federation, and other intermediaries who support Russia in the war against Ukraine.
The war in Ukraine and the sanctions of the G7 countries
It was learned that on May 19, 2023, the G7 countries agreed to ban all imports of diamonds, copper, aluminum and nickel from Russia. According to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the sanctions are helping Ukraine closer victory in the war with Russia.
It should not be forgotten that Russia earns serious income thanks to the sale of natural resources. As the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine reported, the Russian Federation earned up to $2 billion annually from rubber and diamond imports.
That is why the Ukrainian government believes that the formation of global approaches at the G7 level will undermine the economic influence of the Russian Federation, which is waging an aggressive war.
Recall, at the end of winter, the Joe Biden administration developed new sanctions against 200 Russian natural and legal persons for their support of the great war in Ukraine. The sanctions list at the time reportedly included relatives of Russian governors and government officials, defense-related technology companies, and bogus firms that helped evade sanctions.
Meanwhile, on February 21, the European Union extended sanctions against Russia until February 14, 2024 for illegal recognition and occupation of Ukrainian territory.
