Ukraine stopped electricity exports to the EU: what’s going on

Electrical engineers urged citizens to consume electrical energy rationally in order for the electrical system to work stably between the hours of 19.00 and 22.00 in the evening.

Ukraine refused to export electricity to other countries because it had to meet its own consumption. This was reported by Ukrenergo on 24 May.

“The absence of electricity exports from Ukraine is due to the country’s need to meet its domestic consumption needs during the day and to provide reserves for the evening hours of maximum consumption,” the statement said.

At the same time, it is argued that Ukraine now provides its own electricity and all consumers can use it.

“Existing water resources allow hydroelectric power plants to operate all day long and increase their production to meet the morning and evening consumption peaks, when the capacities of thermal power plants are maximized. This will affect the operation of hydroelectric power plants. Solar and wind power plants are active during the daytime.

At the same time, experts are gradually turning off the power units of nuclear and thermal power plants that need to be repaired. And work on the power units of nuclear power plants has already begun.

Electrical engineers also urge citizens to consume electrical energy rationally so that the electrical system can work stably in the evening, that is, between 19.00 and 22.00.

“If possible, move consumption to the morning, afternoon or night, reduce the use of powerful electrical appliances in the evening. Then it will be easier for Ukrenergo dispatchers to strike a balance between electricity production and consumption during this peak hour. The key to the stable operation of the energy system” said.

Recall that on May 17, Ukrenergo was told whether to cut electricity for Ukrainians in the summer. According to the head of the company, Vladimir Kudritsky, the production gap will be closed by importing current from Europe and increasing thermal generation capacity.
