Five EU countries reject Ukraine’s plan to limit agricultural exports – media

According to Polish journalists, Ukraine is consulting with EU countries and the European Commission on export permits, but the final decision will still be made by Kiev.

Five European Union countries rejected Ukraine’s plan to limit exports of agricultural products on Monday (September 18). This was reported by the Polish news agency PAP.

According to the European Commission, this initiative was supposed to replace the unilateral restriction on Ukrainian imports. Journalists noted that Kiev’s proposal was for the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy to independently decide on the issue of permits for grain exports to the European community, including the five eastern member states, even if they are categorically against such permits.

Ukraine is alleged to be consulting with EU countries and the European Commission on export permits. “As the PAP wrote, whatever the results of the consultations, the final decision will rest with Kiev.”

Poland’s EU representative Andrzej Sados criticized Ukraine’s proposal at the meeting in Brussels. According to him, this does not solve the problem of controlling and limiting the flow of Ukrainian grain.

An EU source told PAP representatives that Ukraine’s neighbors do not support Kiev’s proposals and oppose them.

Embargo on grain supplies to Ukraine – European Commission decision

On September 15, the European Commission lifted the embargo on the supply of Ukrainian grain and set new terms for the agreement. The European Union believes that even export rates to third countries outside the European community are increasing, and therefore it is not considering banning the transportation of grain from Ukraine. Restrictions on the import of wheat, sunflowers, corn and rapeseed from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia have been in force since May 2023. The countries on this list did not agree with the European Commission’s decision.

Let us remind you that on September 17, farmers in Bulgaria protested grain imports from Ukraine. Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov did not support the farmers. He believes that farmers have no right to oppose European demands, including the import of Ukrainian grain.
