The CEO of defense company Nammo said the attacks were planned for February 1 and 2. Workers’ protests will mostly affect gunpowder production, which is already scarce in the world.
Finland may suspend the production of ammunition to Ukraine due to the strike of defense industry workers. This was reported by Yle.
According to journalists, the protests will take place in four Nammo factories producing ammunition and gunpowder and will last for two days. According to the company’s general manager Raimo Helasmäki, the strikes are planned for February 1 and 2.
It was noted that the strike would affect gunpowder production the most. It is gunpowder, which is currently very rare in the world.
“It will take more than two days for the nitrocellulose plant in Vihtavuori, which produces gunpowder, to be shut down and reach its design capacity,” Helasmäki said.
He noted that although the factories did not produce ammunition directly to Ukraine, they were purchased by the Defense Forces and only then the shells were exported. According to him, the protests will also affect the supply of ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
However, the Finnish Ministry of Defense has the opposite opinion. They stated that the strike will not affect the quantity and quality of materials shipped to Ukraine.
Let us recall that on January 13, the media reported that cluster munitions from the United States had lost their effectiveness for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. While the Ukrainian army on the front line feels “bullet hunger”, the Russian Armed Forces continue to advance and build fortifications that are difficult for artillery to hit.
Also on January 17, Germany announced a new aid package for Ukraine. The partners’ military support list included ammunition for Leopard 1 tanks, SatCom communications terminals and 30 Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
