Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called the forecast of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) about the growth of the Russian economy exceeding expectations as interesting information.

“This is very interesting information” – he noted in a conversation with reporters.

Peskov drew attention to the large spread in forecasts from various departments, which suggests that “the forecasting potential is relatively narrowed.” At the same time, he emphasized that this is “not without interest.”

On January 30, the IMF said that the Russian economy is demonstrating growth rates that exceed expectations. According to the organization’s report published on January 29, the growth forecast for the Russian economy for 2024 has increased to 2.6%. This figure increased by 1.5 percentage points compared to previous expectations for October 2023.

Later, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, commenting on this forecast, stated that it has already become common practice for international organizations to revise “upward” forecasts for Russia’s GDP.
