In 2024, Russian invaders increased missile and drone attacks against Ukraine. There are still areas where debris is being cleared.
Even in a negative scenario, Ukraine will not lose its entire generation, so there will be no complete power outage. Energy Minister German Galushchenko gave the details in an interview with Mi-Ukraine.
Thermal production suffered the most during Russian attacks. There are still areas where debris is being cleared. Experts are now assessing the extent of the destruction.
“We are talking about billions,” the minister said.
Galushchenko said that despite significant losses and large-scale attacks, experts are working on a stable supply of resources to consumers and businesses. Nuclear power plants produce about half of the electricity, the department head said.
“They will not be able to ensure a complete power outage in the country,” Galushchenko emphasized.
Previously, invaders carried out attacks more locally, targeting specific areas. In this way, Russian troops tried to influence the work of enterprises. Already in March 2024, the invaders increased their attacks.
Russian strikes and the possibility of power outages in Ukraine
On April 5, the Ministry of Energy announced whether there would be a large-scale power outage in Ukraine. According to Deputy Minister Svetlana Grinchuk, energy engineers are working day and night to eliminate the consequences of enemy terrorism. It is now impossible to predict the further actions of Russian troops. He said that there would no longer be power outages across the country, but the enemy was extremely unpredictable and it was impossible to predict what their next actions would be.
In the Kharkov region, electricity was cut off to approximately 350 thousand consumers on April 4. In Kharkov, light consumption was limited to about 100 thousand subscribers. Another 12 settlements in two regions were left without electricity due to bad weather conditions.
Restrictions apply in the Krivoy Rog district in the Dnieper region. No power outages are planned in other regions of Ukraine.
Let us remind you that on April 4, electrical engineers said that the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was on the verge of another outage and there was a threat of an emergency. According to the energy company, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is now connected to the Ukrainian energy system by only one power transmission line (750 kV Dneprovskaya overhead line).
