Ukrainians’ income must increase: Rada said what the minimum wage should be

As the representative of the budget committee Lesya Zaburannaya explained, taking into account inflation, the minimum wage should have exceeded 8 thousand hryvnia.

In Ukraine, the minimum wage in 2024 has already changed twice: in January and April. Following the latest changes, the minimum wage was reduced to 8 thousand hryvnia, but the authorities are working on the possibility of revising this figure. Representative of the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Lesya Zaburannaya said this during the telethon.

He explained that discussions are currently ongoing that the minimum wage could be increased twice, in 2025.

“There are currently ongoing discussions that the minimum wage will be increased by about 8.4 thousand hryvnia next year, and will increase to 9 thousand hryvnia by the end of the year or at the beginning of next year,” Zaburannaya said.

According to him, the minimum wage in Ukraine is currently 8 thousand hryvnia, but it should be higher. So, if we take inflation into account, it should reach 8.9 thousand hryvnia.

“If we examine the logic of increasing the minimum wage, it was 6.5 thousand at the beginning of 2022, but inflation was almost 37 percent in these two years, if recalculated, the minimum wage should have reached 8900 (hryvnia).” – he explained.

A representative of the Rada Committee on Budget Issues noted that the Verkhovna Rada is not against raising social standards, but officials must take into account the state of the state budget. In addition, the payment of all social benefits, salaries and pensions to state employees now depends on receiving financial assistance from partners. Authorities therefore need to coordinate their capabilities with international partners.

Minimum wage in Ukraine in 2024

As of April 1, the minimum wage in Ukraine according to the 2024 budget increased by 900 hryvnia, reaching 8 thousand hryvnia per month. Also, according to Daniil Getmantsev, chairman of the Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy of the Verkhovna Rada, the recalculation of pension payments for working pensioners began on the 1st.

He explained that the recalculation will be carried out after the State Compulsory Social Insurance Register receives the single social contribution payment for the first quarter of 2024.

Let us remind you that recently the Central Bank explained why the wages of Ukrainians increased during the war. It was noted that the increase in payments was reflected even though the number of qualified workers in the labor market was limited. Moreover Focus said, who employers are really looking for and how salary levels vary.
