Due to increased consumption in the summer months, there may be an electricity shortage in the Ukrainian energy system. Chairman of the Board of Directors of NEC Vladimir Kudrytsky said that Ukrenergo can use all means to meet this.
They might stop turning off the lights in the summer in Ukraine. According to Vladimir Kudrytsky, chairman of the board of directors of NEC Ukrenergo, heating will be able to improve the situation with electricity consumption, but will not restore the damage to power plant capacities. He said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, published on May 16.
“Of course, warming will improve the situation with electricity consumption in the country, but it will not restore the damaged capacity of Ukrainian power plants,” said Vladimir Kudrytsky.
According to him, this is possible only if there is no high-risk bombing by the Russian Armed Forces. In addition, consumption will increase in the summer months and therefore it is possible that a deficit will occur in the energy system, but Ukrenergo will use all means to close it.
“In an environment where the energy sector is trying to recover after Russia’s attacks and the energy sector is preparing facilities for the new heating season, it is possible that a deficit may occur in the energy system as consumption increases significantly in the summer months.” he explained.
Kudrytsky added that if the deficit is significant, Ukraine will not have enough means to cover it, so consumption restrictions will have to be implemented.
Let us recall that on May 16, the director of the Energy Research Center Alexander Kharchenko said that it would take years to fully restore the Ukrainian energy system. According to him, the country is in a difficult situation.
On the same day, Yasno CEO Sergei Kovalenko said that the situation was more complicated than energy engineers expected, which is why there were power outages in the morning and evening in Ukraine on May 16.
