The Russian payment system “Mir” will start working in Iran in about six months, it is being integrated with the Iranian Shetab system. This was reported by TASS pIranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali on the sidelines of the BRICS Media Summit.

“We are currently trying to connect the Mir and Shetab payment systems. Shetab is currently working at a test level. I believe that in about six months the Mir payment system will also work in Iran,” — the diplomat said.

The head of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Farzin, stated earlier that this would allow Russians to pay with Mir cards in Iran. Iranian citizens will be able to use Shetab cards in Russian ATMs to receive rubles. In the future, Iranian bank cards will be able to pay in Russian stores.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry also spoke about the introduction of the Mir system in Latin American countries.
