All Ukrainian pharmacies must participate in the Affordable Medicines program by mid-2025, said the head of the Ministry of Health, Viktor Lyashko. The head of government said that people’s ability to spend “Zelensky’s thousand” will increase.
The government has expanded the capabilities of the Winter eSupport and Affordable Medicine programs. Thanks to the new decision of the authorities, citizens will be able to receive electronically prescribed drugs from state aid with a minimum co-payment. Denis Shmyhal detailed the progress made by the Prime Minister at the government meeting on 13 December.
Among other things, Shmygal reported that 6.8 million citizens (that is, about a quarter of Ukrainians) applied for the “Winter eSupport” program. Almost a third of applications (1.8 million) were for payments for children. Additionally, the government has expanded the list of opportunities provided by this program. A decision was taken, especially regarding the Affordable Medicine project. According to the head of government, two innovations have emerged:
- “Winter Support” money is for drugs in the “Available Medicines” list;
- The “Affordable Medicines” project will operate in all pharmacies in Ukraine.
Winter eSupport – how to get medications
The Prime Minister reminded that there are over 600 drugs in the “Available Medicines” list. Citizens can get them free of charge or with minimal additional payment, the official added. Details are announced on the Facebook page of Health Minister Viktor Lyashko. Previously, medicines could be stored using an electronic prescription (or a paper prescription in frontline areas) if the pharmacy had an agreement with the NHSU. Going forward, all pharmacies must sign such agreements by July 1, 2025, the official wrote.

- be present in person at the pharmacy, have an electronic prescription and ensure the institution cooperates with the NHSU;

- make sure the electronic prescription was issued less than 30 days ago, if not, update it;
- Call 0 800 300 545 and follow the instructions to contact the operator;
- type the 16 digits of the code from the electronic prescription and an additional four digits “to cash out”;
- clearly name the drug – you can take any of 532 names (except narcotic substances and insulin);
- specify address and contact information;
- Wait for an SMS message from Ukrposhta Express about the arrival of a package with medicine.
What can you spend “Zelensky’s thousand” on?
