Johnny Depp, along with British musician Jeff Beck, got into a new scandal. This time, the popular Hollywood actor is accused of plagiarism – allegedly Depp “stole the words” from Slim Wilson’s prison poem. A pimp and con man behind bars for murder penned the lyrics to Hobo Ben decades ago. The text was subsequently featured in the 1974 book Get Your Ass in The Water and Swim Like Me by Bruce Jackson.

According to Rolling Stone, Jackson is now accusing Depp and the virtuoso guitarist of plagiarism, who released their joint album 18 in July 2022.

According to the man, the song Sad Motherfuckin’ Parade uses Slim Wilson’s prison legacy too liberally.

Including Depp and Beck included the following lines: “I know that I’m in rags, but I don’t stink”, “God bless the woman who will treat me to a drink.” Jackson himself believes that for the track Sad Motherfuckin’ Parade, the artists wrote only two original lines, and everything else is taken directly from Slim’s work.

“I’ve never come across anything like this. I’ve been publishing stuff for 50 years and this is the first time someone has copied something and presented it under their own name”Jackson added.

Recall that Johnny Depp earns not only music, work in the film industry and the courts. In July 2022, he sold paintings from his first collection for $3.65 million.
