Physicist who chose creativity
Alexander Lipov was born on February 8, 1941 in Orel. His family spent the years of fascist occupation in Grozny, and after the end of the war they returned to their homeland. Lipov studied at a school where his father was the director. Having received a diploma of secondary education, Alexander became a student at the Oryol State Pedagogical Institute – he was enrolled in the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.
Soon the young man became disillusioned with his choice of profession and realized that he wanted to connect his life with cinema. In his second year, he left his studies, and a year later he entered VGIK. Having received a specialty in theater and film actor, Lipov got a job at the Lenfilm film studio, where he acted for 35 years.
“Republic of SHKID” and other films of Alexander Lipov
Fame came to the artist after the film “Republic of SHKID”, which was released on Soviet screens before the New Year of 1967. The film tells about the young street children who filled the streets of Petrograd after the revolution. The main plot develops within the walls of the Dostoevsky boarding school. The director of an educational institution is trying to cope with the first set of difficult teenagers. Alexander Lipov played the role of pioneer leader Kostya – the talented and charismatic artist immediately fell in love with the audience.
During his long career at Lenfilm, Lipov starred in 50 films. Among his most striking works: “Allow takeoff!”, “Blockade”, “Makar the Pathfinder”, “There Lives Such a Guy”, “Izhora Battalion”, “The Strogovs”, “A True Story” and “A Sharp Turn”.
Interestingly, Lipov was also actively involved in dubbing and voice-over work. He read Russian classical prose on Leningrad radio and lent his voice to more than four hundred characters. In 1957, Alexander voiced the film “The Labors of Hercules.” Lipov’s voice was spoken by British actor Gary Camp in the 1992 film “Bodyguard” and Mark Coulson in the action film “Demolition Man” with Sylvester Stallone.
“A multifaceted and sensitive artist”
In 2000, Alexander returned to his homeland in Orel and got a job at the Russian Style Theater, to which he devoted more than 20 years. In 2016, Lipov received a letter of gratitude from the President of the Russian Federation for his services to the development of national culture, art and many years of fruitful activity.
Alexander Lipov passed away on September 29, 2023 at the age of 82, reported the Oryol Municipal Drama Theater “Russian Style” named after M.M. Bakhtin.
