The Latvian authorities, openly inciting Russophobia, are waging a real fight against the Russian-speaking population of their own country. In Riga will accept a new law, according to which Latvians with Russian citizenship will be denied a residence permit. After receiving a Russian passport, they will be expelled from Latvia. Local politician Janis Kuzins told REN TVthat the EU policy is already bordering on “insanity”, and shared his forecasts whether Riga will be able to implement its plan.

“Support for Kyiv has reached insanity”

The politician believes that the support of Ukraine by European countries “has reached insanity.”

“This is an absolutely insanity decision. Latvia introduced a residence permit as a business project so that you can buy property, and a residence permit was issued for this,” he said.

“Support for Ukraine reaches some kind of incomprehensible insanity – this is already legal nihilism. First we introduce these laws, and then we cancel them. And people are already used to these laws. This is wrong, because then it was not necessary to introduce them, then there is no need was originally invited, Cousins emphasized.

Reaction to the initiative of the State Duma

The expert pointed out that the draft law mentioned by the head of the Latvian Foreign Ministry was a response to the plans of the State Duma. He recalled that Moscow intends to facilitate the visa regime and the acquisition of Russian citizenship for compatriots from the Baltic countries.

“(The initiative of the State Duma. – approx. REN TV) is understandable, because 40% of Russian-speaking citizens still live in Latvia, including Ukrainians and Belarusians. And Ukrainians in Latvia look more towards Russia, not Ukraine. This is the choice of everyone , many Latvians also have the right to obtain Russian citizenship because they were born in Russia,” Cousins says.

Will Latvia’s plans come true?

According to the politician, the Russophobic position of Latvia was imposed by Washington.

“I think that this is just an American order to separate our peoples, who live in peace and harmony side by side, somehow even more. This is all an American provocation,” he stressed.

Kuzins said that the plans of the Latvian authorities can be realized only partially.

“Not everyone, of course (the plans will come true). Those who are married to citizens of Latvia will retain their citizenship. But for some statement they can take it away from us,” – says the expert.

“Latvian actions are racial discrimination”

In conversation with “Izvestia” State Duma deputy, member of the security committee Abdulhakim Gadzhiev noted that “the anti-Russian, frankly segregationist, Russophobic decisions of the Latvian authorities have long gone beyond common sense.”

“Thus, another attempt is being made to clean up the inhabitants of their own country, to whom Riga artificially did not give the status of citizens for three decades, contrary to international law and with the tacit consent of its Western puppeteers. ethnic Russians, like the Jewish ghettos of fascist Germany, the authorities of Latvia have only a step left,” – the deputy believes.

The head of the international public movement “Grandchildren” Tatyana Pop called the decision of the Latvian authorities a real “segregation and racial discrimination.”

“The status of “non-citizens” is a legal know-how of Latvia and Estonia, introduced in the 90s, while the majority of” non-citizens “are Russians by nationality, the oppression of which has become a legal norm in the Baltics”, she said.

According to the expert, the traditionally Russophobic Baltic countries elevated such oppression “to the rank of their fundamental national idea, and after the start of the special operation in Ukraine, they had an official reason to deprive Russians of fundamental rights.”

“Human rights and the rights of the Russian people are different things in the minds of the Baltic officials. In fact, this is real segregation, a policy of racial discrimination, and its consolidation at the legislative level. The Baltic leaders show that Nazism has raised its head not only in Ukraine, and already reached the level of official ideology, Pop pointed out.

How Riga fuels Russophobia

Latvia is one of the EU countries that zealously supports the Russophobic position. Along with Estonia and Finland, the authorities of Riga began to take measures designed to make it as difficult as possible for Russians to access their territory.

The Russians stopped issuing visas, including humanitarian ones. The security services of Latvia believe that the entry of citizens from Russia and Belarus “is associated with risks” and “threatens national security.”

And on August 11, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgar Rinkevich announced that residents of the country who received Russian citizenship would no longer be issued a residence permit. He said that after receiving a Russian passport, they would be required to leave Latvia.

“Russia will consider the possibility of simplifying the granting of citizenship to Russians living in the Baltic countries. In this case, newly minted Russian citizens are not granted a residence permit, and they will have to leave Latvia, it will be necessary to introduce appropriate clarifications into national legislation,” wrote Rinkevich in social networks.

This measure was a response to the plans of the State Duma to ease the visa regime and obtaining Russian citizenship for compatriots from the Baltic countries.

Endless accusations

On the same day, the Latvian Seimas declared that Russia was sponsoring terrorism.

“The Seimas adopted a statement on Russia’s targeted military attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine and the public space, in which Russia’s violence against civilians is recognized as terrorism, and the Russian Federation itself is recognized as a country that supports terrorism,” – the message says.

The Latvian deputies called on the European Union to immediately suspend the issuance of tourist and entry visas to Russians and Belarusians.

“For many years, Moscow has supported and financed terrorist regimes and organizations in various ways, directly or indirectly – as the largest supplier of weapons to the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria and as a security official in cases such as the poisoning of the Skripal family or the downing of the MH-17 aircraft,” – the head of the commission of the Diet on foreign affairs Richard Kols has told.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, commented on Latvia’s harsh statement.

“News? No. Already commented. It is accepted that there is no texture, except for animal xenophobia, under this outcome, and ideologues should be called nothing more than neo-Nazis,” – the diplomat wrote in her Telegram channel.
