A chance for powerful development in Russia has now been given to an industry, the existence of which until then was not known to everyone. Domestic tea producers decided to replenish the market after the departure of Western companies. For many Russians, such products can be a very pleasant discovery. What do domestic manufacturers focus on? Details are in the story. REN TV.

The northernmost tea in the world

The northernmost tea in the world grows in the south of Russia, and thanks to this feature, it was the first in Russia to receive an organic certificate. Slopes in winter can hide under several meters of snow, small frosts kill all pests, but no harm is done to the bushes themselves, which has a good effect on the crop.

And this harvest is waiting. Given that well-known foreign brands Lipton and Brooke Bond have announced their withdrawal from the Russian market. This does not mean that tea bags will now have to be brewed twice. For example, in the mountains near Sochi, at an altitude of about 500 meters above sea level, the most important tea ceremony in the country takes place – tea pickers work.

Natalia is one of those who does not even remember the taste of “packaged”. Pinch after pinch brings out the flush, which is the name given to the topmost and most valuable shoots of the tea tree. It’s even a shame, he says that they know so little about the taste of real Russian tea.

“There are a lot of varieties of tea, all interesting, there is red, yellow with flecks, green, black, in general it is very interesting to tear, I love tea. I love to collect it, so let people drink to their health, enjoy this wonderful drink”, – says tea picker Natalia Sidorova.

Frost-resistant hybrid

This variety is not available in the store. The laboratories are trying to do everything so that our tea grows not only in the south.

“Recently, we crossed a resistant variety with an unstable one, we got first-generation hybrids, a frost-resistant variety”, – tells about an important achievement junior researcher Grigory Tsaturyan.

A kind of tea cradle: young shoots are kept in jars in a special gel, which is saturated with all the nutrients. Of course, it will not work to brew it, but already a year after a permanent transplant, it may end up on a plantation, and after that this tea can be tasted.

Perhaps such varieties can be grown in more northern regions. And this, of course, can affect the entire tea market.

“The most important task for scientists is that we replant new plantations with new varieties, varieties with higher yields, higher quality leaves,” – adds the head of the laboratory of the Subtropical Scientific Center, Tsiala Tutberidze.

“Green Gold” of Russia

In total, Russia has 1,400 hectares of tea-suitable soils, which, of course, is very small to meet the entire demand for Russian products. Although there are enough people abroad who want to get our “green gold”.

“When tourists from China come to our city, they say that they have tea of the same quality. Ecological tea grown in clean conditions is much more expensive,” – said the tea seller Diana Mikryukova.

The emphasis is on quality. Insisting that our tea is no worse than foreign tea.

“Those brands that are leaving our market today, they are high-quality tea of such a collection, as we do, they never brought to Russia. They could bring it, and it was very expensive,” – adds Sergey Mochalov, Deputy General Director of Khosta Chai JSC.

As for the departed brands, their absence, according to experts, will in no way affect either the assortment of tea or its price on the shelves. There are no problems with the supply of raw materials.

“In Russia, there are several companies that are superior or commensurate in scale”, – explained the head of “Roschaikofe” Ramaz Chanturia.

The brands that left the Russian shelves occupied only about 5 percent of the market. So there is no doubt that this niche will be filled easily. But what kind of tea – packaged imported or environmentally proven Russian – is up to the buyer to decide. There is a choice.
