Sleepwalking is recognized as a disease, but this condition is not associated with serious pathologies and does not undermine the nervous system. Chronic sleep deprivation, illness or severe stress can lead to an increase in sleepwalking, says a somnologist, head. Department of Sleep Medicine, First Moscow State Medical University. Sechenov Mikhail Poluektov.

According to the doctor, if seizures occur too often, then this significantly reduces the quality of life of loved ones of the sleepwalker, since they have to look after such a person. At the same time, the somnologist does not recommend actively waking up the sleepwalker, screaming and shaking him by the shoulders.

“It’s better to carefully bring a person wandering at night to bed and put him to bed.– said Poluektov in conversation with AIF.

At the same time, the somnologist sees no need to consult a doctor if a person suffers from sleepwalking, especially episodic. According to him, sleepwalking has no negative health effects.

“Prevention of new attacks of sleepwalking are all restorative measures: daily routine, sufficient sleep, adequate physical activity, walks in the fresh air, control of mental stress”concluded the doctor.

Previously, a somnologist told how nightmares affect human health.
