Insufficient fluid intake accelerates the aging of the body due to an increase in sodium levels, writes the journal. eBioMedicine with reference to American scientists.
Experts conducted a study involving 11,000 middle-aged and elderly people. They calculated their biological age based on 15 parameters – blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and a number of others.
It turned out that the risk of developing chronic diseases increased by 39% with a sodium level of more than 142 mmol / l. And at an indicator of 144 mmol / l, the risk of early death exceeded the usual values by 21%.
Also, scientists, having studied the publications of other researchers, confirmed that an increase in the level of sodium in the body is associated with insufficient fluid intake. Among other things, it was previously found that for the same reason, aging and degenerative processes in the body are accelerated, which, in turn, reduces life expectancy.
Earlier, researchers from the United States found that older people who take six thousand steps a day are almost half as likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases, including heart attack and stroke.
