The subtype of coronavirus “omicron” has several hundred variations. They have many features in common, including a mild course of the disease, said Sergey Voznesensky, associate professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.
He noted that “centaur” and “kraken” are just subtypes of “omicron”, RIA Novosti reports.
“In total, several hundred possible variations of the Omicron strain are currently known. All these variations are characterized by two features: a mild course and a high contagiousness.“, – said Voznesensky.
On February 5, Kamil Khafizov, head of the laboratory for genomic research at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that the subvariant of the coronavirus XVV.1.5 or the Kraken strain would not become dominant in Russia.
According to him, now we are talking about isolated cases of infection in the country.
