“There are no alcoholic beverages that are safe for the liver – the dose and speed of consumption are important”the specialist said.
She said that one unit of pure alcohol in a drink is equal to 10 grams: for example, a half liter of beer contains on average two units, and the same amount of vodka or cognac contains 20.
In all types of alcohol, the most harmful component for the liver is ethanol. A relatively safe level of consumption of this substance for a person is 14 units per week: men should consume less than three drinks of alcohol per day, women – no more than two, and at least two days should be completely sober.
But even such doses with regular use increase the risk of fatty liver. It depends on the calorie content of the drink.
“To reduce the risks, it is worth giving up cocktails with a lot of syrups and generally sweet alcohol, and also take into account alcoholic beverages when calculating the daily calorie intake”the doctor recommended.
During the feast, you should alternate strong drinks with non-alcoholic drinks, snacking on food containing fiber and unsaturated fats – fruits, vegetables, berries and sea fish. The doctor urged to refuse cheese and processed meat – they are too high in calories.
In the case of diagnosed alcoholic liver damage, alcohol should be completely abandoned – this is the only way to minimize the risk of cirrhosis.
