In July 2024 to Earth will collapse prolonged magnetic storm. According to scientists, a solar storm is expected in the first week of the month. Although this phenomenon usually does not pose a serious danger, it can complicate the life of weather-dependent people. REN TV will tell you when to expect magnetic storms in July, how powerful they will be and how easier it is to endure geomagnetic field disturbances.

Magnetic storms: what is this phenomenon

What is a magnetic storm

A magnetic storm is a strong disturbance in the Earth’s magnetic field, sharply disrupting its normal course. The phenomenon can last from several hours to several days. Magnetic storms depend on space weather, that is, changes caused by solar flares. They can damage electrical devices, affect the operation of satellites, as well as the life and health of people.

Classification of magnetic storms

  • G1 – minor;
  • G2 – moderate/average;
  • G3 – strong;
  • G4 – heavy;
  • G5 – extremely strong.

We talked in more detail about the types of magnetic storms and the reasons for their occurrence in this material.

Magnetic storms in July 2024

Solar storm July 6th and 7th

A prolonged magnetic storm will occur in the first week of July 2024. About it warned at the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISTP).

According to scientists, the solar storm will last for two days – July 6 and 7. However, it will not have high power: geomagnetic disturbance is expected at the G1 level.

Should we expect magnetic storms at the end of July?

No new magnetic storms are expected until the end of July, meteorologists say. After a series of solar explosions, the density and speed of the solar wind have returned to normal – geomagnetic activity is in a quiet zone.

As scientists from the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences previously noted, the entire year of 2024 promises to be stormy. The peak of solar activity and, accordingly, magnetic storms occurred in May and June, and then slowly began to decline.

How magnetic storms affect health

There is no clear opinion among scientists about how magnetic storms affect people and animals. According to studies, the number of deaths from stroke and myocardial infarction increases during this period. But this increase is insignificant and does not exceed 20%. But there is another opinion. Russian scientists from the Institute of General Physics named after A.M. Prokhorov RAS claim that magnetic storms can:

  • cause insomnia;
  • provoke headaches and dizziness;
  • aggravate blood pressure problems;
  • lead to decreased concentration;
  • cause tachycardia;
  • aggravate problems associated with diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

In addition, solar storms can increase anxiety, irritability, nervousness, as well as lead to mood swings and reduce performance.

Almost everyone reacts to powerful magnetic storms, but not everyone reacts in the same way. A young and healthy person may only feel slightly drowsy during a geomagnetic disturbance. It is much worse for the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases.

How to weather a magnetic storm easier

REN TV I asked for a comment from doctor Pavel Ramensky, head of the first branch of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution “GP No. 195 DZM”. The specialist gave several recommendations that will help weather-dependent people.

1. Take care of your physical health

  • Exercise regularly.
  • Ensure yourself quality sleep and adequate rest.
  • Eat right, drink enough water.
  • Monitor the amount of vitamins and minerals in your body.

2. Maintain psycho-emotional balance

  • Seek help from loved ones or psychologists if you feel stressed.
  • Try relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises or meditation.
  • Avoid stress whenever possible and remain calm.

3. Spend time in nature

  • Walk outdoors, enjoy the sunshine and nature.

4. Use self-help techniques

  • Play some calm music for relaxation.
  • Do something you love or do that brings you pleasure.

How to help yourself with weather dependence

In conversation with REN TV family doctor and nutritionist Elena Kolpak noted that the human body is a complex self-regulatory system, but at the same time quite strong and capable of recovery. She attributed stress to the fact that the body may not cope with adaptation to rapidly changing natural factors.

The specialist also gave several recommendations for weather-dependent people:

  • observe work and rest schedules;
  • use even simple breathing techniques: “breathing in a square”, with an extended exhalation;
  • drink enough water;
  • restore biorhythms, reduce any stress on the body;
  • resort to aromatherapy;
  • You can take preventive doses of magnesium preparations, baths with sea salt, pine extract.
