A person who abuses alcohol can biologically lose from six to 15 years of life. This was reported by RIA News Chief freelance psychiatrist and narcologist of the Moscow Department of Health Anton Masyakin.
“And if we talk about addiction syndrome here, the patient immediately begins to lose these years. And the years that he loses biologically are, on average, from six to 15 years of life,” — the expert said.
Masyakin explained that the loss of years of life depends on a person’s initial state of health and the amount of alcohol he drinks.
“It is very important to note the years of lost life, bearing in mind the social consequences of alcohol, when a person loses a job or cannot find one, and accordingly, drinks even more,” — the doctor said.
Then, according to the expert, comes the second round of problems – the wife leaves, the children stop communicating, and so on. Thus, a person loses years of productive social functioning, the narcologist concluded.
Earlier it was reported that Russia could completely stop selling alcohol in public catering establishments and stores located near medical institutions. The main reason for developing such a project is said to be the fight against alcoholism among the population.
