Authorities in the US states of Vermont and Massachusetts have imposed curfews due to the risk of infection with the deadly Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus, writes Daily Mail edition.
“Vermont becomes second state to cancel public events to stop spread of deadly virus in state”– the article says.
Earlier, authorities in neighboring Massachusetts resorted to similar measures amid a large number of reports of cases of VEE.
The disease is spread by mosquito bites. In about 30% of human cases, the disease can cause cerebral edema, vomiting, seizures and death.
People are advised to stay at home between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am – this is the time period when insects are most active.
Earlier on September 8, it was reported that scientists from China had discovered a new virus spread by ticks. This pathogen is capable of infecting the brain and other organs and leading to the death of the patient.
