If you want to eat on an airplane but don’t want to fly, there’s a restaurant that’s perfect for you.
The restaurant, housed in a converted Boeing 737 in Bolton, north of England, serves steak, fries and chicken.
The official name of the restaurant is “Steak Out”, but it is also called “Steaks on a Plane”. It is said that you can have a “one-of-a-kind dining experience.”
Steakout is across the road. The plane is surrounded by cars believed to belong to store employees and customers. There are parking spaces for 8 cars.
In a 2016 report, the restaurant, which was converted from the aircraft, would be “innovative” and would be a “unique attraction” that would enhance the landscape of the surrounding area, said people familiar with the matter.

Unfortunately the wings have been clipped. There was a large electronic bulletin board on the side of the aircraft, but it was turned off when I went there. It was originally intended to run digital ads, but they weren’t allowed because they could distract drivers. I don’t know if it has never been used.

There are two stairs leading to the restaurant. One entrance for in-store diners and one for take-out purchases.
Climbing the stairs for customers eating and drinking in the store, the right is the eating space and the left is the cockpit.
It was fun to peek into the cockpit. The LED lighting creates a night view just like the real thing.
However, if you look closely, it’s not so pretty.
“Adults are playing in the cockpit,” the restaurant owner told the Manchester Evening News in 2017. “Adults seem to like it more than children.”

However, while I was in the store, only one family with small children entered the cockpit.
The cabin’s original interior has been stripped and replaced with built-in booth tables and chairs. There is an open kitchen in the back. There are no restrooms.
The view from the window is not so interesting. From one window you can see the cars on the road and from the other you can see the cars entering and exiting the parking space. It’s completely different from what you see when you’re actually flying in the sky.
When it first opened in 2017, it probably had a more modern and exciting atmosphere.

The restaurant menu is extensive. However, the basics are beef or chicken with a side of cheese, French fries, fried egg, salad, and a choice of burger or wrap.
Prices are quite reasonable. A steak and egg burger was £5.50, a chicken wrap was £4.50 and a steak with fries was £9.50. I chose the Philly steak, which comes with fries, onions, cheddar cheese, and a side salad. £11.50 with a drink.
It’s the first time I’ve had a Philly cheesesteak. When I opened the lid, it was a little different than I expected. It had thin slices of beef, sautéed onions and a ton of cheese on top of fries.
I’m not really a fan of beef…but I thought I should try Steak Out’s specialty. However, the thinly sliced ”steak” wasn’t what I thought it would be. That said, the fries were delicious and the turnaround time from ordering to serving was fast. Various kinds of sauces were also prepared on the table.
As I was eating, the cheese began to melt. All food is served in the same polystyrene containers used for take-out, even when you eat in. Comes with disposable cutlery.
The store is right in front of the University of Bolton, about 24 kilometers from downtown Manchester. Before the plane, it was operating in the same location using a red double-decker bus.
There are other fast food restaurants in the immediate vicinity of Steak Out, but…
When I visited, it seemed to have a steady flow of customers. There seem to be a lot of students… probably attracted by cheapness and speed.
Personally, I don’t want to go back soon, but that’s probably because I’m not a steak lover.
I wish the cockpit was a little cleaner, but…
I can see why so many people are attracted to this restaurant.
