According to Elon Musk’s Twitter account, several unused rooms are being renovated.
At Twitter’s headquarters, Elon Musk finally has a bedroom with a private shower and even a TV as he continues to look for ways to cut costs.
At its San Francisco headquarters, dozens of unused office rooms have been converted into bedrooms in the past few days, two people with knowledge of the transformation said on condition of anonymity.
Photos seen by Insider show one of the new bedrooms. A queen-size bed was prepared there, with bedside tables and lamps on either side. In addition, various Twitter goods such as baseball caps were prepared as welcome gifts. Flat-screen TVs, which have been around since office days, now hang on the walls for entertainment.
The new bedrooms are mostly Ikea furniture. One of the people said the rooms were created for use by Twitter employees and members of Musk’s transition team who have traveled to San Francisco to work remotely. Forbes previously reported that some of the offices were being converted into bedrooms.
Jared Birchall, Musk’s confidant and head of Musk’s family office, Excession, is said to be staying in one of those bedrooms. Twitter now has about 150 employees from other companies headed by Musk, including Tesla and The Boring Company, who are helping with the transition.
Another source said Musk has also been refurbished to create a private room for his own use.
Twitter says many of its employees coming to San Francisco are staying in hotels, even though many rooms are vacant after the mass layoffs. So the refurbishment could be part of Musk’s cost-cutting scheme, the person speculates. Employees are not officially informed about these bedrooms, but they are free to walk around the headquarters and view them.
In addition, some bedrooms even have a suite of toilets and showers. As such, female employees and female members of the mask transition team will feel more comfortable because “they won’t have to walk across the office to shower,” the person said.
Billionaire Musk said in an email and in a meeting with all Twitter employees that Twitter was in “difficult” financial condition.
Around 70% of employees at the company have been laid off, furloughed, or left because of Musk’s “hard” working conditions. Musk, who has ordered employees to come to the office full-time, has limited reimbursement for expenses employees have spent, and cut benefits and employee perks, has recently become an employee entertainment and Even the free catering that was supposed to have been decided to be abolished.
