Trump’s Damage Continues

It’s like this is one of those low-budget horror movies where we feel like we’ve reached the end, but absurd situations keep popping up, something we’ve experienced since the FBI’s intervention in former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence. This operation to seize crates of classified documents that, for some reason, were still in Trump’s possession, took an unexpected turn when it became known that they could be documents containing nuclear secrets.

No wonder, really, the position in life and surroundings of a character who, even in his business scene, behaved as if scandals were part of his style, sweetened with that glamor that also always surrounds bad filmography about the mafia theme and its scope.

The comparison to the low-budget film comes in the context that we thought Trump would continue to make noise, yes, but not that the actions of the federal government would once again put him at the center of the political debate. And this is with all the attention that he always seeks, and with a platform to continue to destabilize the political process from his trench and, by the way, security.

Indeed, the character he created from himself, taking advantage of the deification performed and perpetuated in this land of the underworld, has a powerful harmful echo, similar to that produced by characters whose evil has the firm intention of “dominating the world.” ”, followed by a ringing laughter of horror after the penultimate blow with the tail.

Worse, it was believed that, as expected in the case of Trump, he would take advantage of this event by raising funds and inciting the violence that his followers have accustomed us to with their claims that he is a poor man, “politically persecuted” .

In fact, a few days ago, a man tried to break into an FBI office in Cincinnati, Ohio with a machine gun and started firing with a nail gun. The incident ended with the death of the man. It turned out to be a Navy veteran who was a supporter of Trump, who, according to various sources, participated in the January 6, 2021 riots at the federal Capitol and who, after a search of the Trump residence, said in Pravda Sots. a platform founded by Trump who wanted to kill FBI agents.

Thus, both the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sounded the alarm in connection with the growing threats of violence against their agents and their facilities, against other officials, and even the publication on social platforms of the addresses of residence, the names of agents involved in the exploitation and their relatives.

Unfortunately, this no longer surprises us, because the violence promoted by Trump supporters on social platforms has normalized to the point that it is not a cause for concern for the Republican Party. His immobility in the face of this unsettling way to end his own country is only matched by the no less sinister way he promotes his anti-immigrant rhetoric of hate and racism, which has already become a Republican trademark that cannot be avoided.

Moreover, it is striking how Republican leaders in Congress and national leaders reacted to the search of Trump’s residence. These “paladins” of “law and order” were the first to question the actions of the FBI and the Department of Justice, some even called the operation “offensive” and “excessive”, while others said that the evidence was “planted” without any proof. It doesn’t matter that Trump has classified information in his house and that it may be nuclear secrets, or that even in the process Trump violated the Espionage Act.

No sir. None of this matters to the Republicans, whose only interest is to continue using Trump as a bridge to bring in this recalcitrant and extremist base to stay in power or take it away from the Democrats. That same right now calls for an end to FBI funding, as the Black Lives Matter movement has called for an end to police funding in the context of abuses by some elements that have resulted in the deaths of African-American civilians and members of other minorities for excessive use of force. The tantalizing equating of two instances is not just wrong. That’s shameful. And they know this, but they enjoy it in front of this nation, because they have reached such a degree of cynicism and impunity that they are not so much interested in the country in which they live, but in imposing a single, white, racist vision of the world at the expense of whatever It was. Even from the blood, sweat and tears that have also been shed throughout the history of the United States.

But this shameful behavior was taught to us by Republicans who, no matter what Trump does – even if it’s now about potentially violating espionage laws and using language that can incite violence – they continue to maintain morality and decency to protect a corrupt figure. , which, even after leaving the presidency, continues to do much, much harm.
