Pope Francis ready to meet with Zelensky and Putin

In response to the question of whether he could kneel before the Kremlin to stop an all-out war in Ukraine, the Pope expressed his desire to meet with the leaders of the warring countries.

On February 5, the head of the Vatican, Pope Francis, once again expressed his readiness to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, the leaders of the warring countries. This is reported by Corriere della Sera, the largest Italian edition of Corriere della Sera.

In an interview with a journalist, Pope Francis was asked if he was ready to kneel before Putin to stop the bloody war in Ukraine, as was done before the leaders of South Sudan in 2019. In this regard, the head of the Vatican noted that he was equally ready to meet with both Putin and Zelensky.

The Pope also said that he was planning a trip to the leaders of the warring states, but the meeting did not take place.

“I am open to talks with the presidents of both Ukraine and Russia. I did not go to Kiev because it was impossible at that time. I went to the Russian embassy on the second day of the war. I wanted to go to Moscow. Talk to Putin It seems that there is a small window for this, but Minister Lavrov told me – We’ll see, maybe later…” Francis shared the details.

According to him, this step was not planned by him. Rather, it was a kind of inner impulse. However, the Pope noted that such actions should not be repeated in the future.

“It is impossible to explain. These were the result of an internal impulse, not planned …” – admitted the Pope.

During the meeting, the head of the Vatican added that the current war in Ukraine is not the only armed conflict on the world stage. He urged the world community to stop because if this is not done in time, another escalation could have unforeseen consequences.

Earlier, Pope Francis had said that the reality of the Third World War was revealed in the world. Although conflicts affect some parts of the planet, they actually affect all of them.

On December 8, Pope Francis wept when he spoke of the suffering of Ukrainians during traditional prayer on the Spanish Steps in Rome. Her voice trembled when she mentioned Ukraine and she had to pause for a while.
