US State Department announces conditions for Biden’s meeting with Putin

The Ministry believes that it is now very difficult to negotiate with the President of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the head of the White House is ready to meet with any world leader if it is in the interest of the United States.

US President Joe Biden will not meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, until the war in Ukraine is over. This was expressed by US State Department spokesperson Andrea Kaplan in an interview with the BBC broadcast on 21 February.

Kaplan told a BBC reporter, “Of course, we need to see the end of aggression against Ukraine for this. It is very difficult to conduct diplomatic negotiations at this level while the war continues in Ukraine.”

At the same time, the State Department stresses that President Biden has said he is ready to meet with any leader, but that it should be in the interest of the United States. Saying that it should be a full-fledged diplomatic meeting, Kaplan added that the White House currently has no plans to meet with Russian President Putin.

At the same time, the United States is not yet ready to meet not only with Putin, but also with other representatives of Russia.

“While Russia is waging war in Ukraine, when we see such aggression, when we see that Russia is not ready for diplomacy yet, it makes no sense,” Kaplan said.

It is worth noting that the US State Department believes that how Ukraine will end the war will be the decision of Kiev, which the US cannot influence.

Recall, on February 20, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, arrived in Kiev as part of an unscheduled visit and met with Vladimir Zelensky.

It is also reported that during an unplanned visit of the US President to Kiev, Ukraine announced that it was sending ammunition for long-range HIMARS MLRS and howitzers, as well as Javelin anti-tank systems.

On the same day, on the evening of February 20, it was learned that Joe Biden went to Poland, where he planned to meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda on February 21.
