The Ukrainian leader emphasized that since our country has a large trade turnover with China, he wants to discuss economic issues with his Chinese counterpart in addition to military issues.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his desire to meet personally with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping. The Ukrainian leader voiced this at a press conference on Friday (February 24th).

“As far as I know, China respects its territorial integrity. Therefore, Russia must do everything to withdraw from our land,” Zelensky said.

According to the president, negotiations with Xi Jinping will benefit China and Ukraine, as well as world security.

“We have a large trade turnover with China. It’s not just about the war. The point is, we are states interested in maintaining economic relations,” Zelensky said.

Russia’s war in Ukraine: what position did China take?

On Friday (February 24th), China urged Russia and Ukraine to resume negotiations without preconditions. This was expressed by Dai Bing, Deputy Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations.

According to the permanent representative, Ukraine is not a battleground between major countries and no one should seek to profit from this military conflict.

Dai Bing stressed that the only way to end the Russia-Ukraine war is through diplomatic negotiations.

The Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the UN said, “And the world community should promote peace and negotiations, and also try to create suitable platforms for the resumption of negotiations.”

Recall that earlier Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the “peace plan” of China. According to him, the document cannot be considered as a document that will help stop the Russia-Ukraine war in practice. At the same time, the Ukrainian president acknowledged that there are official Beijing-to-Ukraine offers in the plan that should be worked on separately.
