‘Talking with Putin is useless’: Kuleba opposes negotiations with Russia

According to the minister, Ukraine has held 88 rounds of negotiations with Moscow since 2019, and these negotiations did not lead to anything, so the head of the Kremlin should be defeated only with the help of force.

Ukraine knew long before the order of the International Criminal Court was issued that negotiating with Russian President Vladimir Putin was pointless. This was reported to Politico by Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.

According to the minister, Ukraine categorically does not reject the idea of negotiation, but adheres to the view that it is impossible to achieve peace by talking with Putin.

Kuleba recalled that on September 30, 2022, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine adopted a legal resolution stating that any negotiations with Vladimir Putin were impossible. This decision was taken in response to Russia’s attempt to annex the occupied territories.

“It’s not that we didn’t try. Ukraine has made numerous attempts to reach a peaceful solution,” Kuleba told reporters.

According to him, since President Volodymyr Zelensky took office in 2019, Ukraine has held 88 rounds of negotiations with Russia, mediated by France and Germany. However, these efforts proved futile.

“Russia trampled all these efforts and instead chose a barbaric, genocidal war of aggression,” Kuleba said. said.

Journalists noted that the last attempt at direct negotiations with Russia was in Istanbul in July 2022. Since then, any dialogue has been mediated by the UN.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Ukraine is trying to find a common language with the Russian Federation even after the start of a full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. Rather than find a compromise, Russia simply stepped up its violent attacks and announced plans to annex more Ukrainian territory.

“President Zelensky made it clear that if Putin continues this annexation attempt, it would be impossible to talk to him,” Kuleba said. said.

According to him, Putin only wants more wars, more Ukrainian lands stolen and more Ukrainians killed. Therefore, it must be forcibly crushed.

Arrest warrant for Putin

Recall that on March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Putin. In addition to the Russian dictator, a court in The Hague has also issued an arrest warrant for the presidential child rights commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova.

The International Criminal Court of The Hague also reportedly said how long it took for Putin’s arrest warrant. The chief prosecutor of the court, Khan, said that the Russian president will remain a suspect for the rest of his life or until his trial.

The Office of the President of Ukraine said that Putin could be tried in absentia. According to the deputy head of the department, Andrei Smirnov, in fact, the Russian leader has already been accused, which means that other top officials of the aggressor country can also be blamed.
