According to the Kremlin spokesman, the Russian side has not received any special offers from Paris, so Moscow knows nothing about any preparations by France and China for peace talks.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia will only consider war-related peace initiatives in Ukraine in a way that takes into account the interests of the Kremlin. This was reported by the TASS agency on April 18.
“The main thing for us is to ensure our own interests,” said the speaker.
Peskov’s statement was made in light of information allegedly by French President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to jointly prepare peace talks between China and Russia and Ukraine. In this context, the Kremlin spokesperson noted that Moscow did not have such information and did not receive the relevant messages from the French side.
“The Kremlin is not aware of the French President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to prepare negotiations between Russia and Ukraine together with China. We are not aware of the existence of any French plans and therefore we have not received anything from the French party,” Peskov told reporters.
According to him, the Kremlin knows there are signals of some kind of peace initiative that came out of the mouth of the French president during his visit to China. However, no special offers were received by the Russian side.
Recall that the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, may ask for help from China to start peace talks between Kiev and Moscow. According to Bloomberg reporters, the French leader instructed his foreign policy adviser, Emmanuel Bonnet, to cooperate with Chinese diplomat Wang Yi on this issue.
On April 12, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the President of the Presidency, said that after the video was made public, in which a Ukrainian prisoner of war was brutally killed, there was no point in negotiating with the leadership of the Russian Federation. According to him, Russia cannot belong to a modern civilization or even preside over the UN Security Council.
