“If Russia approves”: Hungarian parliament announces new conditions for Ukraine’s entry into NATO

According to Dora Duro, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Ukraine’s participation in the alliance due to the war is possible only with the consent of the Russian Federation. He criticized the Ukrainian leadership for allegedly discriminating against Hungarians and recommended that Transcarpathia be granted autonomy.

Unless Russia agrees, Ukraine’s participation in NATO during the war is impossible. Dora Duro, the deputy speaker of the Hungarian parliament and the representative of the Our Fatherland party, told the journalists of the Russian media “Izvestia” about this issue.

“As long as Ukraine’s borders are disputed and armed conflict continues, even NATO’s own rules prevent Kiev from joining the alliance. Without the risk of starting a war, Ukraine’s entry is possible only if Russia approves it in the form of a specific agreement,” he said. .

Ukraine’s entry into NATO: Russia’s position

The Kremlin has repeatedly commented on Ukraine’s accession to NATO.

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov replied that this would never happen to the proposal of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba to “turn the Black Sea into a NATO sea”. He stated that the water area is common to all coastal states. According to him, the Black Sea should become a “sea of cooperation”.

After NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s visit to Kiev, Peskov described Ukraine’s accession to the alliance as a “significant danger” for the aggressor country. Preventing this remains one of the goals of the war unleashed by Russia, he said.

Ukraine limits the rights of minorities: recommendations from Hungary

The Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament recalled the alleged discrimination against minorities in Ukraine. According to him, Hungarians are limited in using their language.

“The Ukrainian leadership does not want to guarantee the fundamental rights of Hungarians, Romanians, Russians and other minorities in the country, trying to limit their existing rights, especially in the field of language use. In light of the increase in military aid, Kiev needs even more. Less compromise for the indigenous Hungarian population of Transcarpathia and guarantees adequate rights,” Duro said.

He noted that “a step in the right direction” could rectify the situation, as well as grant autonomy to Transcarpathia and other regions.

Remember, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Ukraine could be successful in the counterattack. He emphasized that the equipment provided by the partners helped the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to deter the enemy.
