According to Pashinyan, this had not been said out loud before. However, in Armenia, they perceive the war in Ukraine with concern, because it directly affects all relations.
Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said that his country is not an ally of the Russian Federation in the war waged by the Kremlin administration against Ukraine. The Prime Minister of Armenia noted that the military action in Ukraine affected all international relations. He stated this in an interview with Czech television channel CNN Prima News.
According to Pashinyan, it had never been said out loud before that Armenia was not an ally of Russia. However, in Armenia, they perceive the war in Ukraine with concern, because it directly affects all relations.
He also noted that Western countries see his country as an ally of the Russian Federation, but that Russia understands within itself that official Yerevan is against military operations.
“It turned out that we are nobody’s ally in this situation, which means we are vulnerable,” Pashinyan said.
The Armenian leader wants to avoid any conflict, but the situation is getting more complicated and his room for maneuver is narrowing.
According to him, Armenia is fleeing not because it does not exist, but because it has enough problems of its own and does not express its stance.
The Kremlin has already appreciated Pashinyan’s statement. “This has been taken into account,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Recall that participation in the CSTO prevented Armenia from purchasing weapons. According to journalists, such a “mini-NATO” created by Putin is falling apart and Pashinyan is distancing himself from the Russian Federation. He refused to accept the exercises of the CSTO troops in Armenia, which should be held in 2023 under the leadership of Moscow.
It was also reported that Armenia is ready to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan and withdraw from the CSTO.
