President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Andriy Melnyk as Ukraine’s Ambassador to Brazil. The relevant presidential decree was published on the Presidency’s website on 20 June.
The decree states “To appoint Andriy Yaroslavovich Melnyk as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Federal Republic of Brazil.”
Earlier, on May 11, a statement was published on the Brazilian government’s website that his candidacy was approved.
“The Brazilian Government is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Mr. Andriy Melnyk,” the message said.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Melnik served as Ambassador to Germany from 2014-2022 and was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in November 2022.
“He is responsible for the development of relations with the states of North and South America, as well as the Caribbean, issues of international law and state protocol, as well as interaction with foreign Ukrainians,” the ministry said in a statement.
